23rd April 7:30pm to 12th May 5:00pm

Location: Rose Theatre Kingston

The first major stage adaptation of Louis de Bernières' best-selling novel has its world premiere at the Rose. Set on the Greek island of Cephallonia, Captain Corelli's Mandolin tells the iconic story of a passionate love affair set against the turbulent backdrop of World War II.

Iannis loves the island and his strong-willed daughter Pelagia. Carlo, an Italian solider, discovers love whilst fighting in Albania. Pelagia loves her father and the fisherman Mandras. The young Italian Captain Corelli loves only his music.

Then one morning in 1941, the idyllic island awakens to find itself in the jaws of war, under Italian and German occupation. Everything the islanders thought they knew and understood changes, as love blossoms in unimaginable circumstances.

Marking the 25th anniversary of the novel's publication, this enduring story is brought to the stage by the Evening Standard Award winning playwright Rona Munro (The James Plays) and Olivier and Tony Award nominated director Melly Still, who returns to the Rose after the hugely acclaimed stage premiere of Elena Ferrante's My Brilliant Friend
